It always seem ambitious until it’s done.
I saw that Mehron was having a Universal Classic Monsters contest. So I decided that it would be interesting to create a grayscale vampire because I imagined the contrast of the black and white with blood red would be stunning. I was not wrong.
It seems that every time I create a new character they become my new favorite, however this one is particularly special to me.
I knew that I wanted to created 3 stages of this look.
The 1st Look: Plain Jane Grayscale
I wanted nothing extra, just the basics. Although it was challenging for me up to this point, it was still a safe place.
At this point I would be able to capture the finished look and if I started add other layers and it did not work out, well I would still have images of the original concept.
The 2nd Look: She Cries Silver
I enjoy incorporating metallics into my makeup looks whenever it makes sense to me.
I didn’t have too much of a thought process behind adding the silver tears beyond that. In combination with the grayscale and the blood, in my mind, it would turn out to be beautifully artistic.
So I tried it and loved it. On June 1st when I decided to post this look to my Instagram, given what had happened concerning George Floyd and Breonna Taylor (and Ahmaud Arbery- although not directly related to police brutality) this makeup look that was meant for a contest, no longer spoke to me that way.
I saw a woman in tears grieving, not just for the lives taken, but for the Black community. For the ones who, if we did not raise or voices for, would perish, too.
She was a gift to me.
The 3rd Look: Thirsty Vampiress
This was the part where I was really able to play.
I purchased blood splatter from Performance Studios, it just arrived and I was excited to try it for the first time.
I can already tell that I am going to enjoy all hallows eve this fall… from the comfort of my own home, of course, because Corona.
